Michael Welch has rejoined MorganFranklin Consulting, a McLean VA-based management consulting firm, as a managing director in the cybersecurity practice.

Welch, who is based in Chicago, will serve as sector lead for utilities, industrial, and critical infrastructure within the cybersecurity practice.

He brings more than two decades of experience in risk management, compliance, and critical infrastructure security.

Welch rejoins MorganFranklin from civil engineering firm Burns & McDonnell, where he spent a year as managed regulatory services director within the governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) and cybersecurity practice. Before that, he spent three years with MorganFranklin as managing director for GRC and strategy.

He also previously spent two years with OSI Group, a food processing holding company, where he was chief information security officer, as well six additional years with Burns & McDonnell, where he was section manager for compliance and critical infrastructure protection.

Earlier in his career, Welch held security analyst and advisor roles at a variety of companies, including Florida Power & Light.

He has an MBA from DeVry University and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from The George Washington University, as well as certifications in CISSP, CISM, CISA, GICSP, CDPSE, and CMMC-RPA.

“The utilities, industrial and critical infrastructure sectors are facing increasing threats from around the globe,” Welch said. “My goal is to grow MorganFranklin’s cybersecurity practice into a premier service provider for the sector and to help our clients navigate these unique and emerging security challenges throughout 2024 and beyond.”

MorganFranklin’s cybersecurity practice provides services in strategy & risk, identity & access management, security operations, digital forensics & incident response, and managed security.

“We are thrilled to welcome Michael back to the MorganFranklin team and harness his expertise to help provide our clients with premier cybersecurity services,” said Keith Hollender, a partner in MorganFranklin’s cybersecurity practice. “Michael’s deep technical expertise, security leadership and ability to cultivate strong, trusting relationships are key to creating successful programs for our clients.”

MorganFranklin provides consulting in technical accounting, financial transformation and reporting, M&A preparedness and integration, risk advisory, supply chain, and implementation of enterprise and cloud applications. The firm has more than 650 employees across eight US offices and is a part of Vaco, a recruitment and HR consulting firm.
