K-State officials won’t say whether those responsible for a cybersecurity breach asked for a ransom or whether K-State paid it, but they are still investigating the incident, which shut down multiple computer systems.

University leaders Friday declined to comment on the situation because the investigation is ongoing with the assistance of IT forensic experts.

The incident took place on Jan. 14, when K-State saw disruptions to certain network systems.

In a letter Thursday, president Richard Linton said, “I want you to know how incredibly thankful and proud I am for the resilience, patience, service-minded spirit and thoughtful leadership displayed by our students, faculty and staff over these past couple of weeks as we have navigated the current IT disruptions together.”
