The province says it has identified “sophisticated cybersecurity incidents” involving its networks, recently.

In a statement on Wednesday, Premier David Eby says the Government of B.C. is working to find the extent of the incidents.

“The government is working closely with the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security (Cyber Centre) and other agencies to determine the extent of the incidents and implement additional measures to safeguard data and information systems,” he said.

He says the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner has also been informed.

Eby says there is no evidence right now if sensitive information was compromised, but the investigation is ongoing to find out what was breached.

The premier says it is the government’s priority to keep data and networks safe.

“I want to assure British Columbians that the protection of data and networks is a top priority for our government. Cybersecurity threats are a constant reality of the modern world and continue to grow in seriousness,” he said.

“I know the public will have many questions about these incidents, and we will be as transparent as we can without compromising the investigation.”

He assures the public that updates regarding the investigation will be provided to residents of B.C.
