Job Description

Reports to: Director of Technology

Job Goal:
The responsible for developing, implementing, coordinating and overseeing all of the District’s operational and educational databases. Managing users of data to ensure that all local, state, and national data collections are of quality. The ideal candidate brings to the job a strong base of knowledge and skills and is prepared to expand that base with the introduction of new technologies and initiatives.

Qualifications: Experience in effective approaches for educational and administrative technology. Strong technical background in design and application of technology systems, system integration and administrative software necessary to operate a public school district. Experience with Aspen Student Information System is highly preferred. An understanding of web site technology and database systems is highly desired. Ability to work well independently as well as in a team environment is essential. Alternatives to the above qualifications that may be found appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Controls the creation, administration, maintenance and use of databases to store and retrieve data and information.
• Oversee the implementation and management of all educational and administrative database programs and systems.
• Oversees and assists all personnel in data entry to maintain accurate databases.
• Responsible for using the District databases to make data accessible to teachers and administrators.
• Responsible for the quality and validity of data contained in all database files.
• Consults stakeholders and local and state administration concerning the outline of data requirements.
• Communicates database modifications and provides support for data systems.
• Implements and recommends procedures to improve processing, distribution, data flow, collection and database editing procedures.
• Fosters and implements a culture of data quality.
• Provides professional development to all end users on topics such, as but not limited to, data quality, student information systems, assessment databases, and other databases and reports utilized by the District or Rhode Island Department of Education.
• Prepares all District, state and federal technology reports.
• Be familiar and remain current with changes and developments in educational technology and databases.
• Implement cost efficient solutions using the transfer of data via databases: Data importing and exporting support for streamlined student data between Aspen and other software packages (Follett, Fastbridge, Discovery, etc.)
• Represents the District as requested at regional and statewide meetings and serves as liaison with educational, private sector and other agencies.
• In conjunction with the Technology Director or designee, collects and analyzes student and educator data to inform district educational program, instruction and professional development.
• Serve as the district contact for District database support and when necessary, contact database software support for technical information.
• Attend training to develop and retain expertise in all areas of SIS and other technology department programs.
• Participate in cross-training with IT Department members.
• Serve as the administrator for the district web site.
• Provide support for district 1:1 initiative.
• Troubleshoot and resolve basic technology issues.
• Assist faculty, professional and clerical staff with troubleshooting hardware and software.
• Assists buildings with operating and maintaining equipment.
• Install hardware and software when necessary.
• Promote and provide support for technology instruction, operations, new technologies and media for all faculty, professional and clerical staff
• Serve as a member of district and school-based technology committees.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with all facets of the school community.
• Prioritize and execute a variety of complex tasks with minimal supervision.

Terms of Employment: Full-time, 12 month position.

Salary commensurate with experience and full benefit package

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually
