Members of the Dearborn Heights Police Department spent part of the day Oct. 2 working with the staff and students of Star Academy on Hass Street for a training session.

They used ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) to evacuate the more than 470 students and move them all to the grounds of City Hall.

The training has many real world applications in the event of an emergency, such as an active shooter or other tragedy.

Students were taught how to orderly and carefully exit the building and “re-congregate” in a place of safety.
