ASP city Mirzapur Shrikant Prajapati said Rajesh Patel of Bajardiha area attacked his wife Nitu Patel (36) with an axe killing her on the spot.
Patel later consumed poison following which he was rushed to a hospital from where doctors referred him to Varanasi. However, he died on the way, said the ASP adding that both the bodies were sent for postmortem.
During initial investigation, it came to light that Patel was mentally disturbed and was under treatment. The couple has 14-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son
