Outlook: The Mastodons are coming off a galvanizing victory in their Summit League opener. They came from 12 points behind at halftime to beat South Dakota 70-59 at the Gates Center and kick off their final season in the conference with a victory. Jarred Godfrey had 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting in the win, and Brian Patrick added 21 points and nine rebounds. … Since reaching the NCAA Tournament in 2016-17 as a member of the Big Sky Conference, North Dakota has endured two straight down seasons, winning just 12 games each year. The Fighting Hawks are in their first season under new coach Paul Sather, who is in his first year as a Division I coach. They defeated Denver 82-71 in their conference opener. … PFW has embraced a 3-point-heavy style recently. The Mastodons went 11 for 27 from beyond the arc against South Dakota and rank fourth among all Division I teams in 3-point attempts with 27.5 per game. They’re making only 33% as a team, but Patrick, a Kansas State transfer, has been hot recently, hitting 8 for 13 from deep in his last two games and a team-best 39.7% for the season. … North Dakota is led by senior guard Marlon Stewart, who is averaging 15.9 points per game. Junior forward Filip Rebraca, who stands 6-foot-9, is putting up 13.9 points and 9.7 rebounds per contest. … The Fighting Hawks boast a win over a Power Five opponent this season as they beat Nebraska on the road 75-74 on Dec. 21. … The Mastodons are back in action Wednesday at Western Illinois.
