Des Plaines Sex Offender Charged With Kidnapping, Assaulting Teen: PD | #childpredator | #kidsaftey | #childsaftey

DES PLAINES, IL — A 40-year-old Des Plaines registered sex offender who police say kidnapped and sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl last month before releasing her and allowing her to call 911 has been arrested and ordered held on no bond, police said on Friday.

Christopher J. Grygiel faces felony counts of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated criminal sexual assault in connection with an incident that took place in May involving the teenage girl, police said. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the charges, which were brought against the man on Friday.

Police said that the 16-year-old girl was walking near a park on East Howard Avenue on May 11 when Grygiel approached her on the sidewalk. The girl began to walk quickly to avoid the man, police said, but she tripped and fell, allowing Grygiel to catch up with her. Police said the two became involved in a brief struggle before he threatened to harm her and forced her into an SUV that was parked in a nearby lot.

Grygiel began to drive away, and the girl attempted to attack him in an effort to allow her to escape, according to authorities. However, Grygiel used force to overcome the girl and then drove her to an unknown location, where he sexually assaulted the teen, police said.

Hours later, authorities say he drove the victim back to Des Plaines, where she was released and allowed to call 911, police said. The victim sustained multiple injuries in the attack and described Grygiel as a white male with a beard and buzz cut with a silver-colored watch, police said.

DNA was collected and was later matched to Grygiel, who is a registered sex offender in Des Plaines, police said.

The Illinois State Police Sex Offender Registry shows that Grygiel was convicted of the predatory criminal sexual assault of a 5-year-old. The crime happened when he was 20, according to the registry.

Grygiel was arrested on Wednesday and appeared in court, where he was ordered held without bond.

Police are asking anyone with additional information about the incident to contact Des Plaines Police at (847) 391-5400.
