Job Summary: Under moderate supervision, the Digital Forensic Examiner I processes and analyzes computer hardware, electronically-stored data, and other computer-related evidentiary materials relevant to law enforcement investigations. Provides back up support for intake and custody of evidence items. Position may supervise student workers or other support staff.

Additional Department Summary: This position serves as the entry-level digital forensic examiner for the Electronic Crimes Task Force unit. Must complete the Access Data Certified Examiner (ACE) certification within one year of employment. May work long shifts or be subject to call-out at any time of the day depending on the urgency of a case. May spend extended amounts of time investigating graphic and shocking images and video representations of crimes against public morality so must possess the ability to maintain one’s mental and emotional state while performing the duties of this position.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Accounting, or Criminal Justice and some digital forensics experience; or an Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Accounting, or Criminal Justice and two (2) years of digital forensics experience; or a High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of digital forensics experience.

Skills and Knowledge: Ability to maintain strict confidentiality; Must have good analytical skills. Good attention to detail and documentation. Must be able to switch from task-to-task effectively. Good organizational, oral and written communication and public relations skills. Basic knowledge in the usage of personal computers and standard application software (word processing, spreadsheet and/or database management programs). Experience with and/or ability to learn job specific hardware, software and operating systems and programs.

Preferred Qualifications: Certification(s) in computer forensics or other industry accepted certification(s) related to digital forensics. Some experience with computer forensic software applications (ex. EnCase, FTK, Cellebrite, SRY,etc. )
