DOJ Supports Copyright Hacking Exemption for AI Risk Research | #hacking | #cybersecurity | #infosec | #comptia | #pentest | #hacker


A proposed US Copyright Office exemption allowing hackers to circumvent digital security measures to probe artificial intelligence models for bias and discrimination received the backing of the Department of Justice criminal section responsible for intellectual property.

Independent research into outputs that perpetuate bias or encourage unlawful conduct and system vulnerabilities “will likely be essential to ensuring the integrity and safety of AI systems,” John T. Lynch, chief of the DOJ’s Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section, wrote in a letter sent Monday to Copyright Office General Counsel Suzanne V. Wilson.
