Effingham Police Department Shares School Safety Tips As School Starts For Fall Semester | #schoolsaftey

Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- From the Effingham Police department Facebook Page:

As we embark on a new school year, the safety and well-being of our students are of utmost importance to us. We want to remind everyone of some essential safety tips to ensure a smooth and secure transition into the academic year. By working together, we can create a safe environment for our children and the entire community.

  • Obey speed limits and traffic signs in school zones.
  • Avoid using your phone while driving, especially in school areas.
  • Always yield to pedestrians, especially in crosswalks.
  • Be aware of school bus stops and follow bus safety rules.
  • Encourage students to cross streets at designated crosswalks.
  • Teach kids to look both ways before crossing and to use sidewalks.
  • Remind children to avoid distractions while walking, such as using headphones or texting.
  • Remind children not to talk to strangers or accept rides from them.
  • Establish a code word that only you and your child know in case someone else needs to pick them up.
  • Discuss online safety with your children, including the importance of not sharing personal information or engaging with strangers online.
  • Teach children to stand back from the curb while waiting for the school bus.
  • Advise kids to stay seated while the bus is in motion and to listen to the driver’s instructions

And be extra nice to Officer Hartke (Pictured above) as he begins his first year as School Resource Officer!
