Ex-Red Sox player arrested in undercover child predator sting operation | #childpredator | #kidsaftey | #childsaftey

Ex-Red Sox pitcher Austin Maddox was arrested in Florida as part of an underage sex sting operation, the Associated Press reports.

Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters announced Monday that “Operation Valiant Knights,” which took place from April 24-28, resulted in the arrest of 27 men ranging in age from 19 to 69 years old. Maddox, 33, was among the accused of soliciting sex over the internet from people who they believed were children.

Maddox started communication with an undercover agent pretending to be an underage girl on April 28, according to an arrest report.

Officials said Maddox expressed intent to have sex with the girl even after she told him that she was 14 and agreed to meet her at a pre-arranged location, where he was arrested by law enforcement officers.

Maddox was drafted by Boston in 2012. He spent several seasons in the minor leagues before his MLB debut in 2017. He spent about three months with the Red Sox and was sent back to the minor leagues to recover from should injuries. He was released from the team in 2019.

Boston 25 News asked the Red Sox for comment on Maddox’s arrest. A team spokesperson responded: “I don’t have anything for you on this.”
