Ex-Titans safety Blaine Bishop joins high school coaching staff | #schoolsaftey

During his time in the NFL, former Tennessee Titans safety Blaine Bishop was known as the “Hitman” due to his tenacious and fearless play style.

These days, he’s known as “Coach Bishop” at Independence High School, where he has been hired as the secondary coach to help lead his young players to the type of on-field success the former Pro Bowl safety experienced during his playing days.

Head Coach Scott Stidham certainly recognizes how big of a blessing it is to have someone with Bishop’s resume on his staff.

“We’re lucky to have him,” Stidham said of Bishop, according to Maurice Patton of Main Street Preps. “Any time you can get somebody with the knowledge to help our kids get better — that’s what we look for as coaches, someone that loves kids first and will be loyal and hardworking.”

Bishop, who previously served as an assistant at Davidson Academy in 2011, joins a coaching staff that already has former Titans running back Dexter McCluster and former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Jeff Parker.

“It’s my way of giving back the knowledge I have, the education I’ve learned, that’s been passed down to me. I’ve got to give it to somebody,” Bishop said.

“It’s been fun. This is a great coaching staff. It’s fun growing and learning, figuring out the things you can do at this level compared to the college and pro level.”

Bishop will now be tasked with trying to help his new team improve upon their 5-6 record from a season ago.
