Students at an elite Melbourne girls’ school have detailed a catalogue of ‘inappropriate behaviour’ by a teacher who died suddenly after a child safety complaint.

Melbourne Girls’ Grammar teacher David Simpson died shortly after he was reported to police over child safety issues.

Students from the South Yarra school, where the annual fee is about $40,000, have taken to the internet accusing the father of two of ‘touching’ a student and sending inappropriate images to a another.

They also accused the school of not acting quick enough and having their ‘heads in the sand’ over numerous complaints about Mr Simpson.

In a disturbing tweet posted by Mr Sampson several years ago, he wrote that one of his highlights of the teaching calendar was seeing the ‘look on the boy’s faces’ when he told them that ‘females have – wait for it – three holes’.

Police had recently spoken to the private school and issued directions in relation to Mr Simpson.

Damning allegations against Mr Simpson have since emerged on social media.

‘The poor student who was sent photos now has to live with that. All because the school ignored us. My parents are pulling me out thank goodness,’ one post read.

Students claimed the school had been made aware of serious concerns regarding Mr Simpson dating back to the start of the school year.

‘Teachers have told us that they have complained as well,’ the initial post read.

A day before his death last Friday, Mr Simpson posted a chilling image to social media with a picturesque Melbourne sunrise captioned with the words: ‘Be a good day’.

The elite school issued a statement on Monday confirming that a report had been made against him.

‘In recent days the School learnt about an alleged child safety issue,’ Melbourne Girls’ Grammar said.

‘The School’s staff followed the Child Safety and Mandatory Reporting Procedures.

‘As a school our priorities are focused on the safety and wellbeing of our students and community. We will always act in the best interests of the children in our care.’

A student took to Reddit complaining about the investigation into Mr Simpson.

‘They didn’t mention that he was being inappropriate even though we ALL knew,’ the student wrote.

‘Our parents were worried about us but didn’t know why we were all not that sad. Then this week the school got honest, the only reason they got honest was because of the media not because of the truth.

‘We are all angry as we complained about him and we know other teachers did too, yet the school ignored all of that. They waited until it got this bad.’

Signs of trouble had been evident on Mr Simpson’s own Twitter feed, with a June 14 post revealing he was under extreme pressure.

‘This past week has tested my mettle. Every ounce of energy and patience has been called upon. Not to mention all the lessons I’ve learned over the journey,’ he wrote.

Mr Simpson had been highly active on social media, once admitting to running eight Facebook groups across the different classes that he taught.

‘I have found them to be incredibly powerful and greatly appreciated and accepted by the students. It never ceases to amaze me how easy it can be to engage students if you simply ask them how they’d like to do it,’ he wrote in 2011.

‘As of last count (about 2 months ago) I had group contact with 10% of the student cohort through FB. In a school of 1500+, that makes for an easy way to get a message out to the student body.’

Mr Simpson had previously worked at another prestigious school – Haileybury College – where he was head of science for about six years

‘You think the amount the parents pay, the teachers would listen to the students first after MULTIPLE GIRLS complained about him,’ another student wrote.

Some students claimed they had left the school over concerns for their safety.

‘I went to this school as well and left last year and all i can say is … best decision i ever made,’ a girl stated.

It is understood Mr Simpson had acted in a ‘support role’ for struggling students.

‘Umm wrong support,’ the student wrote.

Mr Simpson had previously worked at another prestigious school – Haileybury College – where he was head of science for about six years.

He also taught at Tintern Grammar and St Helena Secondary College.

On his LinkedIn page, Mr Simpson wrote of his love of teaching.
