Catfish hosts Nev Schulman and Kamie Crawford have revealed the relationship red flags that everyone should look out for.
The duo front the popular MTV series in its efforts to help people uncover the true identities of their online lovers – often with dramatic results.
The show was inspired by Nev’s own experience of an internet romance scam and, ahead of new episodes being released, they have laid bare some of the biggest warning signs both on and offline.
They include being rude to customer service workers and claiming that they are ‘too busy’ to make time for you.
Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com, Kamie, 30, began: ‘Red flag for me, anyone who is rude to waiting staff or people in any kind of service industry whatsoever, if you are rude to them, you’ll be rude to a puppy.
‘You’ll be rude to anyone, you’ll be rude to me. You’ll be rude to your mom.
‘I can’t respect people who are disrespectful to people who are there to help them.
‘So that’s a red flag to me. If you’re on a first date and someone is snapping at the waiter. Ewww, leave.’
Father-of-three Nev, 39, added: ‘I think in regards to internet relationships, it’s amazing how often we see the hopeful looking for some level of interaction, whether it’s a phone call or obviously FaceTime or even just trying to communicate and that being met with, “Oh, I’m busy, or I can’t right now. Or now it’s not a good time. Or, I’m at work.”
‘And obviously, we understand that people are busy, but if the person that you’re meant to be pursuing or in a relationship with has a hard time making time for you to just communicate, that to me should be a major red flag.’
But his co-host was quick to add: ‘I think that boils over real-life relationships too.
‘The person that you’re dating in real life can’t make time for you or is like, “I’m really busy with work I’m really busy with…”
‘Then they might be too busy to be in a relationship and you should consider that.’
Nev then concluded: ‘Right? So whether they’re lying or they’re just too busy, it’s probably not the right time.’
Catfish: The TV Show, which first aired in 2012, will return with new episodes on MTV later today.
Describing the show for anyone who has still not seen it, longtime host Nev said it was ‘a window into the wildly unpredictable world of human behavior when it comes to our desperate search for love and affection.’
Elsewhere in the interview, the duo also weighed in on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s so-called relationship, offering up their expert opinions on the budding romance.
Kamie, who noted that she was friends with someone who previously dated the NFL star, suggested the public may be being ‘Catfished’, while her co-host Nev pointed out that ‘prior to Taylor’, Travis had ‘only dated black women’.
‘I think it’s interesting and good for him for being interested in any woman who’s beautiful and attractive, but it is an undeniable, interesting sort of turn of events that all of his previous relationships had been with very different-looking women and now all of a sudden he’s with Taylor Swift,’ Nev said.
Kamie agreed and noted that it was a ‘big topic’ on social media.
Sports Illustrated model Kamie is good friends with sports broadcaster Kayla Nicole, who dated Travis on and off from 2017 to 2022. However, it is not clear if the fashion model is the only ex-girlfriend of Travis whom Kamie has a friendship with.
Fans of the NFL star were quick to share their surprise at the alleged new couple, with Travis’ ex-girlfriend Maya Benberry even warning Taylor to be wary of his ‘infidelity’.
Nev pointed out that many men would ‘probably’ be happy to date Taylor despite her not being their usual type.
Kamie then shared her theory about the motivation behind the new romance, commenting: ‘I think you have to look at people’s dating history, people’s patterns on both sides.
‘People that they’ve dated in the past that maybe the press wasn’t so good and now the press is looking really, really great. I mean, it is great for both of them.’
She added: ‘So are we being Catfished? I can’t say. I don’t know. Not my monkeys. Not my circus.’
Nev mused: ‘My question is, if presumably, Taylor Swift could date any guy that she wanted in the NFL who’s available? Is Travis the guy?
‘The short answer is absolutely yes. I think we’re getting… something’s going on.’
Kamie then stated: ‘Anytime it’s too good to be true… We’re not in a rom-com. This is real life. I don’t know, it’s just giving… It’s giving the star athlete and the star pop star. It’s just a lot going on.’
