Just days away from the presidential election, students at Florida A&M University are sharing their opinions on how the country would be if either presidential candidate were to win the election.

Students mentioned certain issues like health care, gun reform, police reform and others while voicing their opinions.

Over the summer, the country has seen many issues in law enforcement and the social justice system with the killings of Black men and women at the hands of police.

Teah Mathis, a third-year nursing student, had much to say on both candidates.

I think Biden is corrupt as well [Trump]. I feel deep down he is a conservative but he expects the average Democrat to accept him .I do not trust him or Kamala either. It is kind of like a lose-lose in this election,” Mathis said.

Mathis added that she feels that if Trump were to win the election that it would bring on a war” between the radical left and radical right.

The radical right I think would try and take advantage of having someone in power to allow them to do ridiculous things … the radical left would want to fight back against everything going on right now. It would kind of start a war between both sides of the radicals,” Mathis said.

Mathis even celebrates the fact that more people are voting, but believes that more people should do their research on each candidate.

I am happy that people are coming together for this and not treating it like it is nothing. I just wish people did more research and really looked into who these people are. I am glad I was able to do my mail-in ballot because it gave me enough time to do some research and not just bubble stuff in,” Mathis said.

The early voter turnout for this years election so far has been extremely high compared to the presidential election in 2016.

According to CNN, over 12 million ballots were cast in the state of Florida for early voting.

Kionna Walker, a transfer nursing student at FAMU, believes that the country would be more united if Biden were to win and more divided if Trump were to win the election.

If Biden were to win I think we would have police reform and I think this country would be back to being united again instead of being divided .I feel that if Trump were to win the country would go down again because of what is going on and Trump has caused  a lot of problems in this country,” Walker said.

Walker also believes that Biden would focus more on health care than any other issue.

I feel like he would focus more on health care, especially Obamacare, because he is big on that,” Walker added.

Health care has been a major concern for citizens in the United States. According to CDC, about 32.8 million Americans were uninsured in 2019.

Many students are extremely unsure how this election will turn out and if either candidate or either party will truly help amplify the voice of many citizens.
