Fort Myers traffic stop leads to 100 victims of ID theft

More than $50,000, drugs, and a gun were found during a traffic stop on I-75 in Lee County, according to the sheriff’s office.

It happened in the northbound lanes near mile marker 139 near Luckett Road.

The deputy stopped the gray 2011 Infinity for a traffic violation and found probable cause to search the vehicle.

During the search, deputies found $51,000 worth of money orders, $1,200 in cash, a gun, marijuana, ledgers, and lists of names and personal information.

Investigators found more than 100 victims of identity theft.

Kensly Phenix, 30, of Fort Lauderdale, was arrested and charged with the gun, fraud impersonation, possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, and drug equipment, as well as driving with a suspended license.

He’s being held in the Lee County Jail on $28,500 bond.

His first appearance in court will be August 28.

The vehicle was seized along with the money orders and cash.
