Florence, Wis. — Did you know older adults are scammed out of more than $3 billion each year, with more than 3.5 million seniors targeted?
Scammers use a variety of methods to target the elderly — online shopping scams, tech support scams, imposter scams, romance scams, sweepstakes scams, and many others. In order to protect yourself from these criminals, it is important to stay informed.
The Aging and Disability Resource Center of Florence County and Florence County Human Services have joined together to inform seniors about scams.
Participants can listen to golden oldies and play a fun game of Scam Singo — no singing required.
The fun-filled, free educational event will take place from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, at the Florence Community Center and 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College building in Aurora, Wis.
Lunch is available at both locations beginning at 11:30 a.m. Lunch is served on a donation basis and reservations are required as space is limited.
Contact the ADRC of Florence County at 715-528-4890 or email adrc@florencecountywi.gov to register for lunch and/or Singo or to get more information. The ADRC is in the lower level of the Florence County Courthouse, 501 Lake Ave, Florence.
