A man wanted by Florida State University police for inappropriately touching a woman  has been spotted near the University of Florida, prompting UF police to issue a warning. Vincent Steven Mickelsen, 36, was the subject of a UPD “situational awareness” bulletin that said he had recently been seen near the UF campus.

“It is unknown at this time why Mickelsen has been frequenting university campuses,” the bulletin states.

Records indicate Mickelsen has lived in Gainesville in the past. UF spokesman Steve Orlando said Mickelses was never a student or employee.

In a Facebook post Saturday afternoon, the FSU police department said the man “has been displaying odd behavior, especially toward women.”

FSU police spokesman Lt. John Baker said Sunday that a woman told police she and another woman were walking back to campus from the 400 block of West College Avenue late Thursday evening or early Friday morning when they encountered the man.

“He walked with the two women all the way back to campus,” Baker said.

But the woman who says she was assaulted reported the incident to police around 1 a.m. Saturday after she saw the same man following another group of women earlier that evening.

FSU police later identified the suspect as Mickelsen and reported that he does not have an address in Tallahassee. Mickelsen had checked into three Tallahassee hotels recently, police reported.

The Tallahassee Democrat contributed to this story.
