FTC Proposes Rule on Government, Business Impersonation Scams | #socialmedia | #hacking | #aihp

The Federal Trade Commission has proposed a new rule to combat business and government impersonation scams and is seeking public comment, according to an agency press release issued Thursday.

The proposed rule would permit the the FTC to seek civil penalties as well as recover money from scammers who use government seals or business logos, spoof email and web addresses, or otherwise imply a false affiliation in scams that harm consumers. It would codify th that such impersonation scams violate the FTC Act, the agency said.
