Georgia Tech student indicted for hacking UGA website

A 21-year-old Georgia Tech student named Ryan Gregory Pickren has been indicted on felony charges for allegedly hacking the University of Georgia’s website, according to the Athens Banner-Herald.

Before the annual rivalry game before the Yellow Jackets and Bulldogs, Pickren, whose LinkedIn profile shows he is a computer engineering major with a computer science minor, allegedly hacked into UGA’s website and posted a message on the university calendar: “Sat., November 29, 2014/ 12:00 pm/ Get Ass Kicked by GT.”

Pickren apparently didn’t cover his tracks very well, because an investigation by UGA police turned up enough evidence to submit to a grand jury.

Pickren was charged with felony computer trespass, an offense that carries a maximum punishment of 15 years in prison and $50,000 fine.

At least Georgia Tech won the game.
