Georgian Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri on Wednesday hailed his Government’s “active cooperation” with “strategic partners” in cybersecurity, and thanked them for their support in his address at the Georgia Cybersecurity Forum in Tbilisi.

In his speech, the official noted cybersecurity programmes in agreements signed with NATO, the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom had ensured partnerships, adding he expected “further strengthening” of ties in the future.

Gomelauri particularly highlighted the cooperation between Georgia and the UK, and said the “outstanding partnership” had “actively supported” several domestic agencies to develop their capabilities in the field, before noting the country was also receiving “both technical and technological support” from the US.

The Minister also cited cybersecurity as an “integral part” of national security, and added the Government in 2021 had approved the country’s National Cybersecurity Strategy, with its action plan being implemented with an “intensive” involvement of foreign partners.

Gomelauri also extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili for his “special contributions” in supporting the development of the domestic field.
