UNINCORPORATED GLENVIEW, IL — A Glenview-area convicted sex offender is facing multiple felonies after police said he was grooming and traveling to engage in sexual acts with an underage victim in Boston, Massachusetts, over the last year. Weston Opas, 42, of the 10300 block of Michael Todd Terrace, unincorporated Glenview, is accused of felony traveling to meet a child, grooming, felon in possession of a firearm, use of a firearm with body armor, failure to report annually to the sex offender registry, and was arrested last Saturday.

Opas is being held at the Cook County Jail until his next court date on Nov. 16, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

CCSO detectives received a tip from law enforcement in Boston regarding a missing juvenile from the area who was linked to Opas. It was learned that Opas made initial contact with the victim last year through an online gaming app and continued to contact him with text messages.

Opas was also reportedly traveling to the Boston area to meet with the victim numerous times and engage in sexual acts. Police said an analysis of the victim’s phone revealed Opas had knowledge of the victim’s age.

On Oct. 26, detectives identified that the victim was residing at Opas’s home. Police attempted to make contact but were unsuccessful. Soon thereafter, police requested, obtained, and executed a search warrant at the residence, where they recovered the victim and arrested Opas.

At the residence, detectives also found Opas was in possession of a firearm, ammunition, and body armor, which are all illegal for convicted sex offenders.

Police said the victim was temporarily placed in into the care of the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services until relatives arrive in Chicago to take custody.

Opas was convicted of child pornography out of Orange County, Florida, in 2004. In September of that year, he was charged in Cook County with violating sex offender registration laws after he was found in a school zone.

In September of this year, Opas was charged with two counts of child sex offender being in a school zone when he showed up at a Glenview school on consecutive days. Police were notified Opas was seen dropping off and picking a minor child at the school in the 2000 block of Harrison Street. Police said at the time, Opas did not have contact with other children at the school
