Gov. Lee says now is the time to apply for SRO and school safety funds | #schoolsaftey

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WDEF) – Governor Bill Lee says now is the time for local school districts and law enforcement to apply for new state funds to improve school security.

The legislature this year provided funding to put an SRO in every school plus to make physical changes to a school to make it more secure from outside attacks.

“Nothing is more important than making sure that Tennessee students and teachers return home from school safely each day,” said Gov. Lee. “This year, together with the General Assembly, we made significant investments to secure schools across Tennessee, and we’re now inviting local law enforcement agencies and schools to partner with us by applying for these historic funds.”

Law Enforcement agencies can apply for the SRO grant up to $75,000 per year for each school they are responsible for.

They can start their application by clicking here.

School districts can apply for a one-time grant for school security, improved physical security, emergency operations planning, violence prevention, conflict resolution and staff training.

Public schools can apply by clicking here before September 29.

Private schools must submit an “intent to Apply” to the Department of Education by August 4, by clicking here.
