The Government has published cybersecurity guidelines for the procurement of Information Communications Technology (ICT) by public bodies.

The advice highlights potential risks and challenges when it comes to the purchase of ICT goods and services.

The guidelines cover areas such as data leaks, supply chain breaches and malware attacks.

The document was prepared by Grant Thornton Ireland under contract with the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).

The guidelines will be made publicly available to support Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) where similar cyber security procurement concerns would apply.

The Minister of State at the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, Ossian Smyth welcomed the publication of the cybersecurity guidelines.

“This marks a new departure in providing specific cyber security guidance to help assist Public Sector Bodies to embed cyber resilience into their ICT procurement planning and delivers on measures previously set out in the current National Cyber Security Strategy,” Mr Smyth said.
