Grand jury indicts Oregon man on new child sex crime charges | #childpredator | #onlinepredator | #sextrafficing

A man who was arrested during a child predator sting back in April was indicted on new charges, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

Sean Baba, 29, of Portland previously worked as the director of music ministry at St. Pius X Church and School in the Cedar Mill area.

Since his arrest in April, someone else contacted the sheriff’s office with information about Baba, saying they knew him as a child.

The person said Baba contacted them with the same dating app he was using when he interacted with undercover detectives. He allegedly had repeated sexual contact with he child over several years, detectives said.

“Baba did not know this child via his prior employment at St. Pius X,” investigators said.

On June 5, a grand jury indicted Baba on additional charges. He was arrested and booked into jail that same day on four counts of second-degree sexual abuse, and three counts of luring a minor.

Detectives say they’re looking into Baba’s history in California, where he went to college before moving to Portland.

“Anyone with information about these cases or any other potential victims is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 503-846-2700,” the sheriff’s office said.

KATU previously received this statement from St. Pius X on Baba’s arrest:

The Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon was shocked and saddened this morning to learn of the arrest of Sean Baba who is charged with luring a minor and online sexual corruption of a child, both felony crimes. Mr. Baba has been employed as Director of Music at St. Pius X Catholic Church in NW Portland. This predatory behavior is a crime, a sin, and a clear violation of our employment policies, the teachings of the Catholic Church, and our mission as Christians.

The Archdiocese of Portland requires all clergy, employees, and volunteers to complete thorough background checks and rigorous child abuse prevention training. There is detailed info on our work at https://archdpdx.org/child-protection-victim-assistance. We take serious and immediate action on all reports of abuse or red-flag behavior regarding minors.

We are committed to creating a safe environment for all and are fully cooperating with the investigation. We urge anyone who believes they may have relevant information to contact the Washington County Sherriff’s Office immediately at 503-846-2700
