Greenwich’s new Central Middle School aims to improve traffic control | #schoolsaftey

GREENWICH — Plans for the new Central Middle School will improve traffic conditions in the neighborhood and make it safer for motorists and pedestrians, according to the design team that recently submitted plans at Town Hall for new construction.

While debate and discussions about financing  the project are still ongoing, the Central Middle School Building Committee has filed a site-plan application with the town planning department.

The goal was to build a new structure that will be “adaptable, flexible and resilient,” according to the project narrative submitted with the application. The new structure would be “respecting to its neighbors” and create a visually attractive appearance at “this unique location in Greenwich,” the design team stated.

The old school at Indian Rock Lane would be demolished.

Better traffic circulation and parking will be an enhancement for the community around Orchard Avenue, and a new space for parent drop-offs and pick-ups will be added, “rather than on the public roadways as is the current situation,” according to the narrative overview.
