A registered sex offender faces sexual assault and child trafficking charges after he was arrested in Comal County.
Jarrod Gaines Kirkus, 40, was arrested July 12 on charges of sexually assaulting a child and child trafficking to engage in sexual conduct. The charges are both felonies.
Kirkus is under investigation for the “possible sexual exploitation of a juvenile,” according to a Facebook post by the Comal County Sheriff’s Office. The alleged incident involved an underage girl Kirkus picked up from her residence, according to the post by the Sheriff’s Office.
“Detectives have determined that Kirkus meets his potential victims online using the application Snapchat,” the post said.

His bail was set at a combined $350,000 on the two charges, according to jail records. Kirkus posted bail and was released on Friday.
Kirkus is a resident of Marion, a Guadalupe County town northeast of Converse, according to court records.
In 2005, Kirkus was convicted in Bexar County of criminal solicitation of a minor, aggravated sex assault of a 12-year-old girl and possession of child pornography. He registered as a sex offender in Guadalupe County in 2012.
