Guilford County Schools and Greensboro police are addressing safety concerns at high school sporting events in Guilford County following a deadly shooting after a football game. Two young people were also injured in the shooting and two others were also hit by a vehicle at the scene. School safety leaders said ahead of every single game they speak with law enforcement officers to discuss safety and determine what resources are needed. They said for Dudley’s game last Friday, there were two patrol cars within 50 feet of the shooting. They also had four additional officers on patrol in the area. Leaders expressed frustration with the fact those efforts do not seem to be deterring people from violence. “Violence is ruining not just football Friday but lives, families, and memories throughout the U.S. and Greensboro and Guilford County happen to be just one location,” Mike Richey, who’s Assistant Superintendent of Safety and Emergency Management with Guilford County Schools said. School safety officials said they work with the police department daily and weekly about any event they think could have a negative impact on students or in the community. “One of the things we do is that we review every game prior to and make sure our plan is in good place and we do that with our SROs,” Richey said. Greensboro police are still searching for the suspects in the case. Dudley High School’s next football game against Northeast Guilford has been moved to Saturday at noon.
