Actor Ha Jung-woo appeared on SBS Power FM’s ‘Choi Hwa-jung’s Power Time‘ on May 27 to promote his new film ‘Hijacking‘. Set in 1971, the movie recounts the gripping tale of a domestic flight in South Korea that gets hijacked. Alongside Ha, the film features esteemed actors Yeo Jin-goo, Sung Dong-il, and Chae Soo-bin, with a theatrical release scheduled for June 21.

During the broadcast, Ha explained, “‘Hijacking’ is based on a true story from 1971 where a civilian aircraft was abducted and taken North. I play the co-pilot with Sung Dong-il as the pilot, Yeo Jin-goo as the hijacker, and Chae Soo-bin as a flight attendant. It’s a drama with such depth that it’s featured in the documentary series ‘Kkokkomu’.”

Ha added that the film offers a dramatic ending that is emotionally stirring and spoke about the thorough research done by the director, including recreating the aircraft used at the time. He also mentioned his connection with director Kim Sung-han, who was an assistant director on Ha’s previous films ‘1987‘ and ‘Ashfall‘.

Reflecting on his past experience with being threatened through phone hacking, Ha was asked how he would handle a real hijacking. He intriguingly responded, “I would probably keep listening to why I was kidnapped. There’s a scene in the movie where I try to persuade the hijacker, who was only 22 years old at the time. It must have been difficult to persuade him in reality.” This insight into his approach to both acting and real-life scenarios captured the listeners’ attention.
