Madurai: A 65-year-old man was murdered by unidentified people who trespassed into his house near Karimedu in Madurai city on Tuesday.The deceased was identified as M Pongudi, of Yogananda Swamy Mutt South Street near Karimedu. He and his wife Pandiammal were living alone in their house. On Tuesday, at around 3pm, two unidentified people barged into their house.The duo threatened and attacked Pongudi and his wife with billhooks. The elderly man suffered cut injuries as the assailants hacked him. He died on the spot. Karimedu police recovered body and sent it for postmortem examination to the Government Rajaji Hospital. Police said that a probe is on to trace the accused. The motive for the murder was yet to be ascertained. Further investigation was on. tnn

A man from Montana pleaded not guilty to federal charges that he threatened to assault and murder former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Richard Lee Rogers entered the plea during a court appearance in Billings. He is charged with making threats to injure and murder a member of Congress, as well as making harassing telephone calls. The threats allegedly occurred in February, following McCarthy’s election as House speaker. Rogers has no prior criminal history and has been allowed to remain free under certain conditions.
