‘Hacker made tens of thousands of pounds blackmailing porn website users’

An alleged hacker is accused of making tens of thousands of pounds by threatening people using porn websites with criminal prosecutions unless they paid up, the Old Bailey heard.

Zain Qaiser, 22, of Barking, put adverts infected with malware on legal X-rated websites which allowed him to hack into users’ computers, it is claimed.

He allegedly installed browser-locking software to freeze the computer screen, followed by a message saying that criminal proceedings would be initiated if victims refused to pay a fee.

He is also accused of targeting advertising companies operating on porn sites to blackmail them into letting him place malware-infected adverts.

Qaiser pleaded not guilty yesterday to four counts of blackmail, five counts of an unauthorised act with intent to impair the operation of a computer, and three charges of fraud by false representation.

Judge Wendy Joseph freed him on bail until a trial in February 2018
