Blockchain security firm CertiK reported a potential compromise of the private keys associated with PlayDapp, a P2E game based on Ethereum.
This security breach led to the unauthorized addition of a new minting address, which subsequently resulted in the creation of 200 million PLA tokens. Following the breach, the value of PLA tokens plummeted by nearly 10%, marking its lowest since October.
PlayDapp is yet to provide an official response to this incident.
According to DappRadar, the total value of assets on PlayDapp dropped nearly 14% since the incident, despite its number of unique active wallets notably going up today.
The incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by web3 projects in safeguarding their assets against unauthorized access and manipulation.
PlayDapp operates within the blockchain gaming ecosystem, offering a platform where gamers and developers can buy, sell, and trade NFTs and other in-game assets.
The platform offers a cross-game universe, where assets from one game can be utilized in another, potentially increasing their utility.
