The Kern Valley High School Broncs recently hit the field for the Independence Invitational cross-country meet.

At the Sept. 9 meet, the girls’ varsity 5,000 meters featured 30 runners, four of whom were Kern Valley High School athletes.

Kern Valley’s Aspen Hacker came in second place, clocking in at 20:24, just 14 seconds shy of first place. Kassandra Guarneros came in 21st, with a time of 25:40. Kyla Hacker came in 26th at 27:09, and Ella Mauer finished 30th, turning in a time of 27:35.

In the boys’ varsity 5,000 meter race, 45 competed, three of which represented Kern Valley High School.

Sebastian Stallone turned in the top results for Kern Valley, finishing in 30th place, with a time of 21:37. Logan Sampson finished at 44th, with a time of 25:25. Jaydan Davidson come in just behind him at 45th in 28:21.

“KV competed in the Independence Invitational,” Kern Valley High School Cross Country Coach Kenny Bushling told the Kern Valley Sun. “Four girls and four boys competed. Aspen Hacker 20:24 2nd place one of the stronger runners in the entire CIF section.”

“Kassandra Guarneros 25:40 – Kass is getting into Cross country shape and with her strong work ethic she will be improving fast. Kyla Hacker 27:09 – A strong run for a freshman girl and she will be one to watch in the upcoming meets. Ella Mauer 27:35 – A consistent runner that keeps on getting better, she is tough and pushes herself,” Bushling added.

“Returner, Sabastian is a good solid team member that we look to for his consistency and leadership for our young runners,” he said.

Bushling also commented on freshmen Logan Sampson, Jaydan Davidson and Angel Olivares.

“These three freshman are doing well, they are getting used to the distance at the Varsity level and are exciting to follow as they work hard together to compete at the higher Varsity level as freshman,” Bushling said.

“We are beginning to establish base times and looking for improvement. Aspen Hacker ran a strong 2nd to follow up her 1st place finish from last week. We had two runners who ran their first race this week and they did well for their first outing. The team has several other runners that will be competing this next week,” he concluded.
