In a significant cybersecurity incident, EasyPark Group, the operator of Europe’s largest parking app, reported a data breach that compromised the personal information of thousands of users. The breach affected EasyPark’s brands, including RingGo and ParkMobile, exposing customer names, phone numbers, addresses, email addresses, and partial credit card numbers.
Extent of the breach
The company, owned by private equity investors Vitruvian Partners and Verdane, detected the breach on December 10, 2023, and promptly notified affected customers. While the exact number of affected users remains undisclosed, a spokesperson revealed that most were in Europe, with 950 RingGo users in the U.K. specifically mentioned.
The stolen data includes “a few digits of your IBAN or credit card number,” according to EasyPark Group. However, the company assured users that no combination of the compromised data could be used for making payments. Despite this, the company warned users to stay vigilant against phishing attempts that could exploit the leaked information.
