It seems like hackers are still targeting HBO, and this time, they have infiltrated its social media pages.
According to NME, hackers briefly got ahold of HBO’s Facebook and Twitter accounts and even took control of the social channels for “Game of Thrones” and “Westworld.” The hackers, who chose to go by the name “OurMine” even tweeted about their attack. “OurMine are here. We are just testing your security,” a now-deleted tweet read.
In addition, the hackers tried to get the hashtag #HBOleak trending and threatened to expose information unless HBO complies with their demands. They stole the shooting schedules for the eighth and final season of “Game of Thrones,” as well as “Westworld” Season 2. The hackers might give away the sci-fi show’s potential plot details.
HBO definitely takes its time building up each season for its biggest shows. Casey Bloys, HBO’s programming president, earlier explained to The Hollywood Reporter that “Westworld” is such a huge undertaking that they need a lot of time to prepare for it. Due to this, they cannot guarantee the release date as of now.
“‘Westworld’ is such a big, ambitious show. I don’t know if it will be fall of 2017 or into ’18,” he said. “That will depend as we get up and running. With ‘Westworld,’ because the production is such a big endeavor, I don’t exactly know when [it will premiere] yet. I can’t speculate other than to say it’ll either be ‘17 or ‘18. Probably more like ‘18 and half-hours [Insecure and Divorce] in ‘17 but we’re a year away so let’s see how it goes.”
One thing’s for sure though, the first episode of the next season will feature a time jump from the chaotic event that took place during the Season 1 finale, wherein Dolores Abernathy (Evan Rachel Wood) shot park creator Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins) and went on another killing spree. “You’re definitely going to see the aftermath and the effects of what happened,” creator Lisa Joy told Entertainment Weekly, to which co-creator Jonathan Nolan added: “We are definitely not picking up right where we left off.”
