Three tips and tricks to make your back-to-school a success!

The winds of pumpkin spice, golden fall hikes and sweater weather are blowing this way. Can you be-leaf fall is already here? With a new season welcoming the start of the term, time to crack open a laptop and start learning. It’s easy to feel motivated when a new semester starts, but we’ve got three hacks so you can stay on track.

1. Know where to find answers to your questions

You may be teeming with academic-related questions, whether it’s citing in APA, finding archival information about the architecture of a building, or trying to muster up the energy to write your report about hydrocarbons.

SAIT School for Advanced Technology instructor Andrew Campbell says the first, and possibly most important step to success, is communicating with your instructor. Ask them, “What can I do to succeed?” and let their answers guide you.

Another trick is to pull ideas from the wealth of information already out there. You don’t need to scrape the internet for articles with tips on writing better notes, studying more effectively or acing those tests. Just scan through the list below!

Browsing through our website is also a great place to answer questions relating to admissions, paying your tuition and fees, registering for classes, interpreting your grades, or applying to graduate.

2) Build your network and reach out

SAIT has the experts and resources to help you succeed. A great way to hack your semester is to make those connections and expand your network.

The Reg Erhardt Library is a great place to start because they have a team of dedicated librarians. They’re available to provide insight and tips, and help you find the information you need to put together a stellar report.

There are also? services at SAIT ready to support you on your journey to resiliency. To speak to a pro, go to Student Development and Counselling. You can chat things out? with someone, whether you’re feeling overwhelmed or you need help working through a concern.

3) Get involved and make new friends

The Student Engagement Office can help you make the most of your time as a student at SAIT, whether it’s through volunteering, student leadership or community involvement.

Make new friends and improve on your English skills with the English Conversation Partners Program.  It’s a unique cross-cultural experience that pairs SAIT students who speak English as an Additional Language (EAL) with a student, alumnus/a or employee who is fluent in English.

The Interfaith Centre is a community hub focused on inclusivity and celebrating people from all backgrounds and cultures, so stop by to say hi to a chaplain!

To hone your leadership skills, consider volunteer student leadership positions in the LEADS program, which will be posted sometime in November 2023.

See the world and earn academic credit with the Study Abroad program.  You may experience a different style of education and get exposure to another side of your industry that offers new methods and techniques you can apply to your studies at home — and after graduation. Studying abroad is also a great way to build connections around the globe.

Showcase your school pride by supporting SAIT’s Trojans! The Trojans also have a special Esports studio open to SAIT students. Decompress to League of Legends or destress with Mario Kart in the Senator Burns building, NJ112. There’s a  long list of games to choose from.

Get that endorphin kick by lacing up your non-marking sneakers and heading over to the temporary home of the Wellness Centre for a break! It’s currently open from 7 am to 10 pm on weekdays and 8 am to 10 pm on weekends.

Looking for discounted tickets to a Flames’ Game? The Saitsa Resource Centre is a great spot to stop by for a variety of discounted tickets. Or, if you’re looking for budget-friendly produce, swing in? to order a Good Food Box for some seasonal fruits and vegetables.
