Here’s why there’s more police at Farmington school buildings | #schoolsaftey

FARMINGTON HILLS — Students will notice a greater police presence in Farmington schools as officers attempt to better engage the community, starting with youth.

Police hope the new initiative will increase school safety and create ways for students to have positive interactions with officers.

“It will expose them to uniformed police officers,” Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King said. “That has an effect on building those community relationships with our young people. People see the police uniform as scary and intimidating. Kids have to be exposed to that in a positive context. It can’t just be when someone gets a ticket, gets in an accident or is arrested.”
