Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a cybersecurity grant plan for New York state.

A total of $5,810,605 in federal funding will be used to help local organizations reduce their cyber risk.

Some of the money will be used for cybersecurity scholarships and training.

Around 80% will go to local government entities, with at least 25% allocated to entities in rural areas, Hochul said.

“A cyberattack can halt an entire community, and it’s essential that local governments have the resources and information needed to protect themselves and quickly respond to a cyber threat,” Hochul said in a statement. “This funding will provide tools to help municipalities secure critical infrastructure to protect New Yorkers and reduce cyber risks.”
