Former foreign minister Alexander Downer says Chinese hacking agencies posing a threat to Anthony Albanese’s trip to Beijing seems “a bit extreme”.
“It would be a huge act of aggression for the Chinese to attack the prime minister’s plane in that way,” Mr Downer told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“I’m not sure whether they’d do that or not.
“Ultimately the intelligence agencies … they’ve got to make the judgement about these things and about what could happen.”
Mr Downer said it was a “good thing” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was going to China and hoped the trip would boost Australia’s “national interest and national values”.
