Hunter Biden sues Rudy Giuliani for hacking his laptop | #hacking | #cybersecurity | #infosec | #comptia | #pentest | #hacker

Hunter Biden sued Rudy Giuliani on Tuesday, claiming he hacked his so-called “laptop from hell” and disseminating embarrassing personal information including nude photos and purported emails about shady business deals.

The presidential son accuses Giuliani of spending years “hacking into, tampering with, manipulating, copying, disseminating, and generally obsessing over” the data after obtaining the laptop under murky circumstances from a Delaware computer repair shop owner.

The suit brands the Tru-backed campaign a “total annihilation” of Hunter Biden’s privacy in a multi-year effort to discredit him and his father, President Biden.

It demands unspecified damages from the former New York City mayor and onetime personal lawyer for former President Donald Trump. The suit also names Robert Costello, who was once Giuliani’s lawyer.

The lawsuit is the latest salvo by Hunter Biden to hit back against Trump allies who have spent years spreading his private data gleaned from the laptop including purported emails and embarrassing X-rated images.

Hunter Biden, who was recently indicted on a federal felony gun charge, says he was in the grips of addiction when he left the laptop at the repair shop and apparently forgot to retrieve it.

Pro-Trump operatives obtained the laptop and in the final weeks of the 2020 presidential campaign leaked emails purportedly about Hunter Biden’s overseas business deals that they hoped would swing the vote for Trump.

Some of the same claims are at the heart of the congressional Republican impeachment inquiry into President Biden, even though all the deals happened years before he won the White House and there is no evidence that he was involved in his son’s business deals. GOP lawmakers plan to hold the first impeachment hearing this week.

The laptop suit claims Hunter Biden’s data was “manipulated, altered and damaged” before it was forwarded to Giuliani and Costello and that they further altered it.

Hunter Biden is seeking unspecified monetary damages and a court order to return the data and make no more copies.

Costello once represented Giuliani, but recently filed a lawsuit to recoup $1.3 million in unpaid legal bills.

Giuliani did not immediately comment on the suit. He derided a separate effort from Hunter Biden to get federal prosecutors to launch an investigation of the laptop incident as a “frivolous legal document” that “reeks of desperation because they know judgment day is coming for the Bidens.”
