The selectee for this position serves as an Information Technology Specialist (Network Services) for an 18-month unaccompanied or 24-month accompanied tour in Manama, Bahrain.

The current workweek is Sunday through Thursday. Employees hired from continental U.S. will receive Sunday Premium Pay (computed at 25% of basic hourly rate, eight hours per week).
Priority consideration will be given to military spouse preference and family member preference eligible residing in the commuting area of the duty location for this position. Commuting area is defined as the geographic area surrounding the duty location in which people can reasonably be expected to travel back and forth daily.

Evaluating through research and testing the compatibility and interoperability of currently installed and planned installations of IT systems onboard afloat units.
Identifying system failures or problems through analysis of audit trails and log files.
Providing guidance on current automated information systems security developments as they relate to hardware, systems software, telecommunications, and systems design and development techniques.
Solving diverse problems of onboard computer systems with minimal oversight.

This is a Key/Emergency-Essential position. In the event of a crisis situation of war, the incumbent must continue to perform assigned duties to support mission requirements until relieved by proper authority. In addition, this position requires Anthrax and Smallpox vaccinations. The Anthrax vaccination is a series of 6 shots occurring at 0, 2 and 4 weeks; then at 6, 12 and 18 months, followed by an annual booster as long as you remain in the position. Smallpox vaccination is a one-time inoculation. We strongly recommend that you receive the Smallpox vaccination and begin the Anthrax series before arriving in Bahrain and provide a shot card or other medical verification upon arrival. If this is not possible, you will be required to report to the Branch Health Clinic to receive these mandatory vaccinations within 15 days of arrival. The Branch Health Clinic will also provide subsequent Anthrax vaccinations (to complete the series) as well as annual boosters. You may be exempted from Anthrax and Smallpox requirements if you provide acceptable medical documentation which provides medical justification for exemption. This position has been designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position in specialty area 44 and as a “Condition of Employment,” incumbents of these positions are required to comply with the DON Cyber IT/CSWF Program requirements of SECNAV M-5239.2, which include:
1. Earn and maintain appropriate credentials from the Cyber IT/CSWF Qualification Matrix (described in SECNAV M-5239.2) associated with the specialty area and level commensurate with the scope of major assigned duties for the position to which you are assigned, and;
2. Participate in a continuous learning program as described in SECNAVINST 1543.2. A minimum of 40 hours of Cyber IT/CSWF related continuous learning annually documented in a current individual development plan signed by both the employee and supervisor.
3. New hires will have six months to meet requirements of the billet to which they are assigned.
4. Personnel not meeting established timelines above may request an additional six month waiver via their chain of command. Waiver process will be provided SEPCOR via a numbered ALCOM message.
Resolution of shipboard technical issues involves working on the ship where considerable walking, climbing, stooping and standing for several hours at a time on hard steel decks is required. Riding the ship during underway repairs (2-7 days) at a time will be required. The work regularly involves frequent exposure to hazardous conditions such as: high electrical voltages; large rotating machinery elements; electromagnetic radiation from high powered transmitters; nuclear radiation in and around machinery spaces aboard nuclear powered ships; explosive, flammable, or incendiary materials; turbines; condensers; etc. and entering enclosed spaces below the ship’s water line. The work is normally required aboard U.S. and foreign naval ships at berths, at anchor or at buoys within the harbor. On numerous occasions and with short notice, there will be requirements to perform temporary additional duty at sea on naval ships and/or at naval or private shipyards located throughout the world (including combat zones) utilizing government as well as commercial aircraft. Helicopters and aircraft (COD) flights are utilized for transfer to/from ships at sea. High line transfer from ship to ship may be occasionally required.
