This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Office of the Chief Operating Officer (OCOO), Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), Information Technology Services Office (ITSO) in Atlanta, Georgia.

DUTIES:

As an Information Technology Specialist (NETWORK) you will:

  • Serve as CDC representative on matters pertaining to highly complex current and emerging networking technologies required to support the CDC mission.
  • Provide expert technical guidance for agency (enterprise) network communications for the agency’s data center environment.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to CDC staff in the development and implementation of new networking technologies. 
  • Configure, install and troubleshoot Cisco Routers and switches.
  • Provide expert technical support of the Local Area Networks (LANs), Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs), and Wide Area Networks (WANs) to include, architectural design, research and evaluation of new technologies, data center communication, system management, routing, security, and performance management.
  • Responsible for project activities and critical problem resolution relating to data networking components which impact the overall operation of the agency network.
  • Identify project risks, and escalates and/or resolve project issues.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience with network communications for a data center environment and network interfaces between the data center and the Wide Area Network (WAN)/Local Area Network (LAN) environments.  Applicants must also have IT related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies:  Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communications, and Problem Solving.

4. Problem Solving – Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
