Information Technology (IT) Systems Administrator

The Information Technology (IT) Systems Administrator will be responsible to lead and execute the requisition, configuration, administration, maintenance, and systematic evolution of the information technology that Internet Archive employees rely upon to do their jobs. This includes the computers, software, services, and systems such as laptop computers, printers, office LAN networks and numerous cloud-based online services (Google Apps, Jira/Confluence, GitLab, Quickbooks Online, Twiki, Jira, WordPress, etc). Additionally, this position is expected to develop, test, document, deploy, and support tools and procedures that enable the automation of repetitive configuration and maintenance activities with in the broader core-infrastructure team.

Responsibilities and Duties

Within a team of strong in general software and systems technology you will be “the most available and responsive” person to address office system problems and opportunities as they arise.

Establish and adhere to a published, rotating schedule of proactive engagement with Internet Archive employees.

Maintain a terse log of each session (or their cancelation). These sessions are to:

Confirm that the systems, configurations and tools they use for their jobs are working well for them

Surface, understand, and assess opportunities to introduce to this employee tools that are already in broad use at the Archive

Train the employee in areas where they show gaps that impact the effectiveness use of tools essential to their job.

Define and promulgate procedures and systems that enhance the overall communication and productivity of teams at the Archive.

Work with the Senior Systems Administrator and at the direction of the Manager of Infrastructure Systems to establish and then execute a roadmap and schedule of tools and tasks that support the systematic and (where possible) automatic maintenance, monitoring, and support of the core hardware infrastructure, operating systems and network operations.

Become the central point for the computer, access, and systems aspects of onboarding and terminating employees. This includes training incoming employees on key office systems, services, and tools.

Plan, communicate and lead the successful migration of office IT functions from legacy tools/technology to new systems or services (like Twiki to Google Docs and Quickbooks to Quickbooks Online).

Become the primary administrator of email services related to the Internet Archive and Internet Archive projects and services.

General activities and duties at the direction of your Manager.

Skills and Requirements

Mac OS and Apple administration

Linux and Linux system administration

Scripting: (bash, python, etc.) as used to build tools for procedural automation

Mail server tooling

“Client-side” and access point networking tools

Google Suite

Ideally, you know or are enthusiastic to learn all about:
Jira/Confluence administration

Twiki (wiki’s in general)

WordPress administration

Git administration

Reports to: Manager of Infrastructure Systems
