Looking at my grown children makes me wonder how time passes so quickly. Just yesterday they were in diapers or learning to ride a bicycle. Sometimes it feels like life is roaring forward in the fast-moving carpool lane. This is especially noticeable now that the ISACA annual meeting, which is taking place prior to our flagship INSIGHTS conference, is soon upon us.
It seems like it was just a few days ago that I was installed as international president of ISACA. And now a year has passed. The year has been incredibly busy, productive and fulfilling, but it has passed by in a flash.
During the year I had the opportunity to be closely involved in the thorough review of the strategy we adopted several years earlier. This time we focused on a longer-range horizon that extends 10 years into the future. The research reinforced our direction and commitment to our tagline:Â Trust in, and value from, information systems. We also outlined a strategic aspirational view to guide ISACA as we address current and future stakeholder needs.
Among its many activities, ISACA reached many milestones over the past year:
- We achieved the highest member-retention rate in 10 years.
- The 90,000th professional earned the CISA certification since its inception.
- COBIT 5 was released and more than 70,000 PDFs of the three initial COBIT publications have been downloaded.
- A webinar series was introduced to offer members free, easy access to educational opportunities.
- Ten audit programs were released.
- We developed an iPhone/iPad/Android app for the ISACA Journal.
- We formed several customized relationships with other global organizations.
All in all, we again benefited from an amazing group of individuals who led ISACA and contributed their time in so many different—yet equally valuable—ways. I was fortunate to meet many of those individuals at the chapter meetings I was privileged to attend.
And now I welcome Greg Grocholski, who will be installed as ISACA’s next international president on 24 June. He is a terrific leader who will carry on the passion for ISACA and its members.
In addition to Greg, I would like to thank the ISACA board of directors for its dedication and keen insights. We took our responsibilities for the stewardship of ISACA very seriously and spent many hours together over the course of the year engaging in lively discussion and taking forward-thinking action.
I also would like to send a note of appreciation to everybody who took on a chapter-leadership position, as well as those who attended an event, downloaded a publication, sat for a certification exam, earned a certification, visited our web site or interacted with ISACA throughout the year.
Together we make a strong team that will help ISACA successfully navigate the fast lane of the future.
