Job Description

The IT Operations Manager job position is one that oversees the daily administration, management, maintenance and backups of district servers, computers, and network infrastructure at all school buildings across the district. The IT Operations Manager is responsible for resolving network/system operational issues, and for managing District Systems Administrators and Intern Staff as well as providing technical support to District staff and students. This position reports directly to and is evaluated by the District’s IT Director.


• Monitor, implement, maintain, and upgrade data center systems and storage;
• Maintain system images, patch management for deploying and maintaining user laptop/desktop workstations and IT infrastructure servers;
• Help negotiate IT vendor agreements;
• Research, recommend and purchase software applications;
• Assist in the administration of cloud based applications/services;
• Design, implement, & manage network, infrastructure and phone systems – current and future;
• Assist in the development and the management of the IT budget;
• Administration of Google Apps for Education Portal, Email, Applications, and managed hardware;
• Recommend and administer upgrades and patches to operating systems, applications, and equipment;
• Automate and administer backups and recovery of user data encompassing cloud and on-premise systems;
• Maintain records on licenses, warranties, and service agreements for the organization’s hardware and software;
• Monitor daily access / activity logs for network usage and anomalies;
• Supervises and mentors District Systems Administrators and IT helpdesk personnel;
• Provides top level support of users;
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • QUALIFICATIONS:• Bachelor’s Degree in an information technology related field and/or qualified through other work experience and certifications;
    • 3-5 years experience in systems administration;
    • Highly proficient with desktop and server platforms including OSX, Windows OS, Linux, VMWare;
    • Experience with managing iOS and Chrome OS applications and devices;
    • Understanding of management & support for Google Apps for Education (GAFE);
    • Strong prioritization skills to ensure the highest levels of support to the District;
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
    • Skilled at documenting technical processes and procedures;
    • Advanced knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SFTP, SMB, CIF, DFS, AFP, SSL;
    • Ability to secure data through use of NTFS, Firewalls, Filevault, Bitlocker, etc.;
    • Strong working knowledge of networking, VLANs, IP Routing, QOS;
    • Proficient with remote administrative tools such as VNC, RDP, ARD, SSH, VPN, and Citrix;
    • Familiar with Citrix Clients/Servers and MS Terminal server;
    • Experience supporting and administering Active Directory Domains & Group Policies;
    • Experience supporting and administering OSX Open Directory Domains & MDM Policies;
    • Experience supporting and administering virtual technologies VMWARE products, vsphere, vcenter;
    • Experience with advanced scripting in BASH, VBS, BAT, and Powershell;
    • Strong working knowledge of Wireless Networking and security protocols;
    • Works well both alone or in a team setting;
    • Strong analytical skills;
    • Experienced understanding and management of VoIP technologies;
    • Delegates responsibilities effectively;
    • Handles highly confidential information/materials;
    • High comfort level working in a diverse environment;
    • Valid Massachusetts Driver’s Licenses and reliable transportation;
    • Candidates must be able to perform moderate/heavy lifting of equipment and climbing of ladders.
