A car seat safety event will take place 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Jacksonville Fire Department as part of an effort to improve the statistic that 46% of car seats and booster seats are used incorrectly.

Certified car seat technicians will be at the event to help parents and caregivers learn about child passenger safety and have their car seats checked for proper use and installation.

Participants should bring the vehicle owner’s manual and the car seat instruction manual, if possible, along with the child who will be riding in the car seat. Participants are asked to allow around 30 minutes per car seat being checked.

The event is sponsored by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, SIU Medicine and the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The fire department is at 200 W. Douglas Ave.
