Jamie Redknapp has praised his ex-wife Louise for doing a ‘great job’ with co-parenting their two sons, three years after the couple divorced.

The former footballer, 47, who split from the Eternal star in 2017 after 19 years of marriage, admitted they still ensure they’re ‘pulling the right way’ when it comes to looking after their sons Charley, 16, and Beau, 12.

Speaking to HELLO! Jamie said: ‘I’m very fortunate I’ve got two great boys. When you co-parent, it’s something you have to do together and make sure you’re both pulling the right way.’

The former England star added: ‘Louise does a great job with the boys. We do the best we can and try to be tough but fair.’

After his split from Louise, Jamie has been dating Swedish model Frida Andersson, after the pair were first linked back in August 2020.

He also spoke about the challenges of homeschooling his sons, adding: ‘I found it incredibly difficult. It made me question myself as a parent, and I learned that my mum wasn’t very good!’

Jamie added that it can be a challenge being ‘tough and fair’ when it comes to disciplining his two boys.

Louise had previously admitted she felt lonely, anxious and unimportant’ in the last few months of her marriage to ex-husband Jamie.

In an extract from her new book, released on Thursday, the singer, 46, writes: ‘For a long time, I ticked all the boxes of being the “picture-perfect” wife. The truth? For a lot of that time, I actually felt lonely, anxious and unimportant.’

She went on: ‘Looking back, I wish I’d sat down and really tried to explain how much I was struggling, how unimportant I felt in our lives together and how depressed this made me feel.

‘I wish I’d been honest and said I felt unloved. I never spoke about how things were at home to a single soul.’

Louise admitted in the book that she felt this way as Jamie’s post-football career took off, with him landing television and punditry gigs left, right and centre.

‘When I was married I honestly got to the stage that when I walked into a room with Jamie, I felt like other people were surprised that he had chosen me and was still with me,’ she admitted.

It comes after Louise recently admitted she ‘ran’ from her 20-year marriage to Jamie and had thoughts of ending her life amid the divorce.

Reflecting on her dating woes, Louise explained how she’d been talking to one man for a while but after telling him she was going on a bike ride, the messages stopped.

According to The Sun, Louise wrote: ‘It’s been five months and no reply. I’m just sitting here wondering what was it that I said? Are bike rides that unattractive?

‘Basically, this is a way to say the new world of dating is so opaque and difficult to navigate.’

However she did admit that dating after her divorce means she’s able to learn what she ‘needs and deserves’ from her next partner.
