JCPS giving update on transportation, school safety at board meeting | #schoolsaftey

JCPS officials are expected to update the Jefferson County Board of Education Monday night on the school bus transportation issues and may present some new options to the board, according to a district spokesperson. Most students are being dropped off by 6:30 p.m., said Carolyn Callahan, chief communications officer for JCPS, in an email.Nevertheless, some say additional improvements need to be made. “I do hear from parents who still don’t have bus stops – they still don’t have bus stops for some of our kids,” said Linda Duncan, a school board member. “Those things are what I call fails. I think when an elementary student gets off a bus and it’s going to be dark in another month and getting off the bus in the dark to find a way home, that’s to me a fail.”John Stovall, head of the bus drivers union, said he expects the district will make some changes to bus routes over next week’s fall break.District officials will also give a presentation on school safety officers, as they roll out weapon detection systems.JCPS officials said they will release new information on the number of SSOs they have hired as well.Read more about JCPS transportation and safety below:
