A sexual predator jealous of a woman who did not want a romantic relationship with him beat her on the head with a toilet seat and was charged with felony aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, court records show.

Volusia County sheriff’s deputies arrested Carl Booth, 68, of Holly Hill, on Monday. He was released from the Volusia County Branch Jail Wednesday after paying $2,500 bail.

On Monday, sheriff’s deputies were called to a home near Holly Hill at 9:30 p.m. to reports of a disturbance between Booth and the victim, who was a roommate, court documents state.

Deputies wrote in their report that the woman was outside having a drink and when she went inside, Booth confronted her.

The woman reported that Booth started yelling at her because he was jealous. When deputies asked her why Booth was jealous, she said it was because she would not have a romantic relationship with him, according to an arrest report filed with the court.

As the argument escalated, Booth grabbed a toilet seat and attacked the woman, striking her in the head twice, cutting her on the right side, the report detailed. Deputies noted in their report that the victim was bleeding from her head injury.

When Booth was questioned, he claimed the woman fell down the steps. He said the woman fell down on her left side but that did not explain the injuries on the right side of the woman’s head, deputies recorded in the arrest report.

Florida Department of Corrections records show Booth spent nine years in prison for a sexual battery with coercion by threat, an offense he committed in 1983. Booth has also done time for burglary, state records show.

In 2018, he was arrested and charged as a sexual offender/predator possessing an altered driver’s license. He did two years in prison and was released in August 2020, Florida Department of Corrections records show.

The victim was cleared by medics at the scene and refused further treatment.
